First Baptist Church of Urbana utilizes a Diaconate form of leadership. The Diaconate, taken from the New Testament Greek word "diakonos", seeks to model servant-leadership and be people of character as described in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
The Diaconate Board consists of six ministry areas with at least one deacon chosen by the church body serving in each ministry area. The ministry areas are Worship, Evangelism, Education, Fellowship, Edification, and Facilities. The Diaconate meets together at least once a month. In addition to the deacons, each ministry area has a team of other congregation members that meet and serve together as a ministry team.
